Job Summary: 

Provides Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) leadership for company, implements and maintains company policies adhering to local, state and federal EHS regulations. Key EHS consultant for design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures.  Ensures compliance with all EHS regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Plays lead role interfacing with all federal, state, and local regulatory bodies. Is required to provide support to multiple sites and/or multiple shifts.

 Essential Job Duties:

  • Is Subject Matter Expert to ensure a safe work environment for employees, contractors and visitors to the site or sites where assigned which includes various/multiple shift environments.
  • Acts as internal EHS consultant to assigned groups, shifts, departments and/or divisions providing leadership, guidance and advice on a wide range of EHS topics.  Maintains presence in operations to ensure open communication with all employees.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state and federal EHS regulations. Responsible for assuring that all company facilities are in compliance with applicable regulations. 
  • Plays key role interfacing with regulatory agencies and corporate personnel to direct EHS efforts in the facility.  Investigates, measures and evaluates environmental and safety conditions and carrying out relevant research, development, planning, design and related activities.  
  • Designs, develops and may deliver effective and timely training programs, ensuring compliance with all internal and external regulations and compliance.  Identifies and trains subject matter experts to deliver training, and delivers training personally.   
  • Oversees, develops and may perform program audits to ensure compliance with Company policy and applicable regulations.
  • Schedules all required training and maintains records and documentation.
  • Communicates policies to organization including print and oral communication programs. Identifies opportunities for additional programs and policies; makes recommendations. Oversees and participates in/supports review of Safety Manual and/or Environmental Manual and ensuring recommendations for any required changes are properly evaluated and implemented.
  • Leads the Safety Steering Committee (SSC).  Plans monthly meetings including preparation of presentations, metrics and other communications to the Committee.  Works closely with managers to meet with employees to discuss EHS concerns and proactively communicate safety information.
  • Oversees Risk Assessment program for organization ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations and standards. Develops annual Risk Assessment Plan, coordinates required team support, and performs risk assessments and implements required corrective action.  Works with Contractor Coordinators & Risk Management to ensure hazard assessments and orientation for all contractors are performed timely.  
  • Ensures timely reporting of and investigations into all work related incidents and ensures corrective action has been identified and implemented.
  • Maintains company OSHA logs and ensures all governmental agency reporting is completed.
  • Oversees company's workers compensation program. 
  • Communicates organization's emergency plans and coordinates required drills.
  • Develop and/or ensure recognition programs are consistently implemented to motivate safe behavior of employees.
  • Supports the overall planning and installation of equipment and process change to ensure compliance with EHS policies and regulations. Ensures Work Instructions are up to date and key points of safety clearly noted.
  • Participates in ISO internal audits where applicable. May be designated as ISO9001 program manager to ensure ongoing certification requirements are met.  
  • Tracks and ensures closure of all corrective actions in a timely manner, coordinating with Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities/Maintenance and other Departments and/or outside partners as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Responsibilities:

  • Works under minimal supervision, conferring with manager on unusual matters.
  • Assignments are broad, requiring originality and ingenuity and have a major impact on the organization's effectiveness.
  • Operates with appreciable latitude for action and decision.
  • Projects are generally large/complex in scope and generally have impact at an individual, departmental, divisional and/or corporate wide level.
  • Maintains a general knowledge of the business and material handling industry. 

Job Knowledge:  

  • Understands and applies a comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices and procedures relating to the overall body of environmental health and safety knowledge.  
  • Understands and applies a comprehensive knowledge of the operations of the business in all aspects of EHS management.
  • Requires excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Education, Experience & Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in EHS or other related field is required.  
  • 8 or more years of EHS experience are required.  Experience working in a manufacturing and/or warehouse environment is required.
  • Certification(s) related to EHS are preferred (for example OSHA 10 or 30 Hour Course Certificate, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager Certification, etc.)

Working Conditions:

Primarily works in office/operations/manufacturing environment where required to stand for extended periods of time. Is required to provide support for multiple Sites, Divisions, Departments and/or Shifts requiring flexibility in terms of environment and work hours. Physical presence in the work place is required to successfully meet performance requirements. The use/wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in accordance with Company policy. Occasional overnight travel is required.
