The Machine Controls Engineer works with and influences other Bastian Automation Engineering employees,  customers and suppliers to utilize the latest technologies to integrate material handling systems for complex applications. This includes R&D and prototype development to successfully bring new products to market.  The process involves understanding the customer's goals and objectives, and developing smart engineered solutions to meet these goals.  Technologies used in this position include high level automation, 2D and 3D machine vision, optical devices, specialty conveyors, robotics, end of arm tooling, 3D modeling, and simulation. The Machine Controls Engineer is responsible for multiple integration projects in all phases of the project and will be capable of concepting, research, sales and applications support, estimating, component selection, device troubleshooting, HMI development, PLC programming, panel and electrical design, software development, robotics programming, onsite installation and debug, and service support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of  Engineering. 5+ years experience preferred

  • PLC/Robotics programming, panel design, project management experience

  • Aptitude for Hands on Electrical and Mechanical troubleshooting

  • Experience with Automation  (ABB, Fanuc, Allen Bradley PLC & HMI), specifically material handling      systems

  • 2D and 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks a plus, AutoCAD 2D required, etc.)

  • Extremely computer literate with MS Office products

  • Able to demonstrate effective leadership

General Duties:

  • Program PLCs, HMIs, and robots per customer and Bastian specifications and maintain code snippets

  • Research new hardware and provide recommendations for adoption into standards

  • Ensure projects are executed in an effective manner in regards to time, cost and function

  • Work with Mechanical Engineering to provide robust system designs

  • Clear communication with both management and the shop personnel

  • Assist development and implementation of standard practices to ensure quality improvement, cost      reduction, and team growth

  • Work well with others on the Bastian Automation Engineering Team.  Have fun!

  • Solve technical problems either individually or though collaboration

  • Electrical device/panel layouts and schematics

  • Provide technical Support for applications, sales and marketing when necessary

  • Conduct full scope of controls & robotics project services as outlined in the overview above.

  • Create Functional specifications

  • Deliver successful projects with regards to customer satisfaction, schedule, time, and budget.

  • Attend training and become certified in applicable technologies or programs.

  • Communicate strategic information regarding suppliers, customers and competition.

  • Develop new controls and robotics techniques or equipment that will help maintain Bastian      Robotics as a leader in our industry.
