Site Supervisor Overview

Primary representative for Bastian Automation Engineering during the installation, check-out, and startup portions of a project.

  • Close coordination with Project Manager and/or Sales as applicable.
  • Starting up and troubleshooting of equipment
  • Assistance with and final check of equipment layouts in preparation for installation
  • Develop and maintain installation and check-out check lists (punch-list generation and review)
  • Respond to customer requests in a timely manner.
  • Feedback on project successes and challenges to Customer Service and Engineering teams
  • Review control schematics
  • Understanding of Relay Logic Relay logic, Frequency Drives, Photocells, Proximity switches, high and low voltage systems, 1 & 3 phase electric circuits,
  • Self-motivated requiring little supervision.
  • Product testing that may require lifting. These items may weigh up to and including 50 pounds.
  • Completion of daily log lists and updates
  • This position reports to the Customer Service and Quality Manager, while on site at project they will coordinate activates with respective Project Manager or Project Leader.

Non-Project Site Visits

  • Occasional service visits will be required for a warranty issue, or for scheduled service
  • Regular site service visits to repeat clients
  • Site visits (other than emergency service) to be scheduled well in advance and goals for each trip discussed with appropriate Sales person and Project Manager
  • Trip to be followed with Project Recap including contacts and topics of discussion

Required Background

Outstanding Previous Work History.  Energetic ambitious and hard working. Skilled in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and PLC troubleshooting. Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical material handling equipment and machines. Strong interpersonal skills required.  Literate with MS Office software suite and Internet/e-mail. Material Handling, Robotics, Manufacturing or Packaging background required. Strong technical aptitude and extensive knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance. Strong demonstrated sense of customer service.

 

Minimum Performance Requirements                                          

Projects / Operational

  • Provide input to Project Manager as to internal BAE resources necessary to successfully complete the project.  Communicate with other team members current and anticipated needs.
  • Anticipate problems - take action rather than reacting.
  • Always ensure that any change orders are approved and documented in writing prior to incurring the cost.
  • Forward all contact information to Sales and Customer Service
  • Completion of signed service reports, expense reports, time sheets, and equipment status reports.
  • The installation or repair of existing equipment installations which may include programming, replacement of electrical parts, replacement of mechanical parts, the addition of both electrical and mechanical parts, additional components i.e., conveyors, interfacing with both upstream and downstream equipment.
  • The training of plant personnel. Both operators and maintenance. In addition, in house training of BAE personnel may be required.

Administrative

  • Maintain office area clean and organized.
  • Complete all administrative tasks/paperwork in timely manner. 
  • Enter time sheet and expense report data for previous week by Monday noon, follow BAE Shop Personnel travel and time submission policy.
  • Complete all Corporate Credit Card statements by the first Friday of the following month.
  • Maintain and monitor a corporate email account and computer

Superior Performance Objectives                                    

  • Able to take charge of decisions and conflicts in the project and resolve quickly
  • Provide outstanding customer service (Customer Letters of Recommendation). Motivate and inspire the BAE and subcontractor team. Sell the efforts of the team to the customer. Help our subcontractors to be successful.
  • Improve the process with written templates, spreadsheet tools, outstanding lessons learned, etc.
  • Recruit new exceptional talent to BAE including Coordinators, Field Sales, Sales Consultants, Inside Sales, Project Managers, Field Supervisors, and Project Engineers.
  • Set example for other members of the team in personal and professional appearance and action.
  • Network with customers to find new business opportunities. Pass on to Sales if possible or pursue and turn in to sales opportunities.

Other                                     

  • Travel: 85-90% overnight travel expected, including extended stays for start-ups.  Out of town durations will vary with locality of projects. Goal for extended projects is to return home every other weekend.  Meal per-diem will follow the corporate travel policy.
  • Occasional significant overtime required when necessary during commissioning and installation.   Compensatory time or overtime for weekend work or extended shifts is available.
